Crisis in Federal Parliament as Harry Jenkins threatens to resign as Speaker

A CONSTITUTIONAL crisis has been averted when the House of Representatives effectively voted no confidence in Speaker Harry Jenkins, and he had to consider resigning.
He stayed but only after Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and Prime Minister Julia Gillard begged him not to quit.
.
“It is genuinely a new paradigm so please, Mr Speaker, do not add to the difficulties of this day by feeling you cannot continue in the chair,’’ said Mr Abbott, moving a motion asking Mr Jenkins to stay put.

This is a thankless job as you have to be fair to both sides. Harry Jenkins does a good job but at times is very easy on the members sometimes he should send more members to an early lunch , but he does have a good sense of humor
"The loss of freedom is like cancer; it will spread slowly but surely across all parts of society until our liberty has been utterly eaten away and we are left with nothing but a half-forgotten idea of what freedom was."
