My requiem to Banjo Paterson and the Empire
In 1893, Australian poet Banjo Paterson wrote:
The English flag may flutter and wave,
where the world wide oceans toss,
but the flag the Australian dies to save,
is the flag of the Southern Cross.
Anzac Day 2011; ‘A Requiem’ to Banjo Paterson and the demise of the Empire’
‘The English flag now flusters and waivers where the world wide oceans cross
But the flag the Australian dies to save remains the flag of the Southern Cross’
I hope that in a hundred years or less we as a people are not relegated to history like old banjo and the empire?
